Kashmiri shawls
We stock a wide range of shawls manufactured in Kashmir from local and imported fibres.
1. Pashmina.
A very fine fibre spun from the wool of the pashmina or cashmere goat. Pashmina wool is one of the finest and warmest animal fibres. These are the shawls which are fine enough to be drawn through a wedding ring.
Our shawls in this range are hand woven from wool from the back and body of the animal. This is not the very finest quality (which comes from the underbelly and neck) but nevertheless is a very fine quality pashmina at a very reasonable price.
2. Silk Jacquard
A soft, pure silk, reversible shawl with paisley patterning, handwoven on a semi automated Jacquard loom
3. Butter silk
Shawls in this range are woven with a warp of silk and a weft of pashmina. They are quite delicate and feel very soft and silky.
4. Silk/Wool
These shawls are woven with a warp of wool and a weft of silk. They are striped and checked with varied colours elegantly matched. They wear well, whilst at the same time feeling soft and silky. The shawls are reversible.
5. Kashmera (local) Wool
These pure sheep’s wool shawls are hardy and warm enough for everyday wearing yet quite fine and dressy. They are woven on a handloom. With their very reasonable price they are one of our most popular items. We stock a wide range of colours as well as black and white.
6. Viscose
This fibre is made from natural cellulose which is dissolved and reconstituted to the soft fibre called viscose or rayon. The shawls we stock are machine woven in a wide range of colours and styles that are always changing. They are hardy and very reasonably priced.
